Aegis Welcomes Rep. Carter to Its Killeen Center

DALLAS, TX and KILLEEN, TX, Apr 06, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Aegis Limited, a global outsourcing services provider and part of the $17 billion Essar Group, announced today that it will be hosting a visit from Rep. John Carter (R-TX) at its center in Killeen, Texas on Monday April 9.

"The Congressman's visit further demonstrates our commitment to Killeen, where we are among the five largest employers in the area. Our commitment to job growth includes hiring military veterans and their family members. We have several centers located close to U.S. military bases, and we are among the largest employers in nearly every U.S. city in which the company has operations."

Rep. Carter added, "America needs new jobs more than ever, and I am pleased to see Aegis helping create those jobs both in our district and around the nation in centers such as this. In addition, as Co-Chairman of the House Army Caucus, one of my key initiatives is improving employment opportunities for military families, both our veterans and military spouses, and this facility is a great example of providing those opportunities It is especially pleasing to see new jobs in this building to replace the Sallie Mae jobs that were shut down by the previous Congress." Carter is author of H.R. 687, the Military Spouses Employment Act, which would provide tax incentives for employers to hire military spouses, and remains pending in this session of Congress.

Aegis bringing 250 jobs to Killeen at Sallie Mae site - TDTNews ...

KILLEEN - Aegis Communications will hire at least 250 people in November, making the company one of west Bell County's largest private employers with nearly 900 workers.

The former Sallie Mae call center had been slated for closure at the end of this year as a result of the federal takeover of the student loan program in March. India-based Aegis acquired the former Sallie Mae contact center on June 4, saving about 350 jobs.

"We've really grown and are growing and are excited to do that and offer opportunity in the community," Susan Parkhill, Aegis site director, said.

Most of the new positions will work with inbound customer service calls related to two new contracts with "major health care companies that operate in the Medicare arena," Parkhill said. Workers also will make sales and outbound service calls.

The Twin Creek Drive call center recently inked a contract with an energy company. It still receives financial services calls related to the accounts handled previously by Sallie Mae.
